Gary L. Williams has been the Chair of the Council for the Spanish Speaking, Inc.’s board of directors since 2000. He has provided stability during the transitional phases of the Council’s expansion and growth. Dr. Williams earned a Master of Arts in political science and a PhD in urban social institutions at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where he has been employed for over 30 years.
Dr. Williams is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at UWM. Additionally, he is the Director of the Institute for Intercultural Research which addresses the needs and concerns of communities of color through research, service and education. His current contributions of service to the community include his election to the Brown Deer school board, American Cancer Society Sankofa Project, Children Family Community Partnership board, African American Aging Network, Alzheimer’s Association board, and UWM Alumni Association Board of Trustees. Dr. Williams originally hails from Chicago. He is married and has four children.
